Jack London State Park Photo Workshop, Tour & Model Shoot
Workshop #1 in the Source Photography Historic Photo Tour Series™
Travel back with us to the early 1900s for a fascinating and historic 4-hour Photography Workshop, Tour and Model Shoot in the ruins of Beauty Ranch, famed author Jack London’s 1400 acre ranch-turned-State Park in Glen Ellen, just north of Sonoma.
Photograph The Ghost of Jack London
All of our Historic Photo Tours are unbelievably cool, but what makes this Tour REALLY unique will be our model shoots. Our first model is a Jack London look-alike dressed in period clothing, and we’ll photograph him outdoors using our studio lighting. We’ll help you dial in the perfect camera settings, then you’ll use our wireless remote triggers to trip the lighting as you take one-of-a-kind images of our fun, friendly model in an appropriately historic location. It’ll be like photographing the ghost of London himself.
Led by our pro photographers, our Photo Tour will take you through the Park’s most amazing sites, and you’ll learn about Jack London’s incredible life and his time at the place he aptly named Beauty Ranch.
During our Tour you’ll capture gorgeous images of the massive stone remains of Wolf House, the crumbling Winery Ruins, the House Of Happy Walls, Jack London’s grave, London’s Cottage with its white picket fence and meticulously manicured gardens, the lovely terraced hillside vineyards, and much more.
Note: This tour requires walking within the Park on established road and hiking paths with gentle- to moderate grades with an overall distance of approximately 2 miles.
Past Meets Present
We’ll have a second model – with a modern glamour look – and studio lighting set up for you in another great location, where you’ll be able to merge the remnants of Jack London’s past with the beauty of the Ranch’s present. Our model is fantastic, and the location we’ve selected for this shoot is one of the most popular of all our Tour model locations. You’re going to love it!
Throughout our tour we’ll provide hands-on, practical instruction and proven techniques to help you capture the history and magic of this lovely Park, and unlock your potential as a photographer.
During the Tour, we will discuss the following topics
* Lens choices & camera settings to capture scenery, landscapes and architecture in natural light and make your images POP!
* Using studio light, flash and modifiers to easily turn any outdoor photo opportunity into a model shoot
* Creative photography – Shooting OUTSIDE the box
* Photo composition, and much more!
All Tour Guests are responsible for transportation to / from Jack London State Historic Park.
Whether you are new to photography or a seasoned shooter, this incredible Photo Tour will immerse you in the history of this extraordinary place, allow you to create stunning images that uniquely intertwine Beauty Ranch’s storied past with Jack London State Historic Park’s present, and give you a hands-on learning experience that will take your skills to the next level.
